I would think you need to add the drivers for either an Intel 82545EM Gigabit Ethernet NIC (e1000) or Intel 82574 Gigabit Ethernet NIC (e1000e) as that is what VMware is going to use for Windows 7 and Windows 8 Virtual Machines, respectively.
